The Beginning
The Beginning of BABBO
In 2024, we founded BABBO after asking ourselves a simple question:
why is truly good, flavorful Italian food so hard to find?
We saw how food was losing its pure taste, its nutritional value, and its honest roots — and how there were barely any real alternatives. So we decided: we’ll do it ourselves.
We started BABBO to bring back what Italian food once was: pure, full of flavor, and good for you.
We show people how real food is made, who makes it, what it should taste like —
and maybe even how it was always meant to be.
Friends on a Mission
Francesco and Alex first met as colleagues in Amsterdam and quickly became close friends.
Francesco, born and raised in Italy, and Alex, who spent much of his life traveling through Italy, kept circling back to the same topic: food.
Why was it so hard to find that same real Italian taste and quality up north?
The core of the problem? A lack of knowledge.
"Most people don’t even know how often wheat is harvested each year, or how many types of grain exist. They’re eating low-quality grains every week, turned into supermarket pasta — without even realizing it. It’s kind of crazy when you think about it."
When Francesco introduced Alex to Leonardo — an Italian farmer he met while studying Food Science in Turin — everything started to click.
We discovered the true value of ancient grains, local varieties, and most of all: the importance of staying connected to the source of your food.
Because without knowledge, making better choices just isn't possible.
Why BABBO?
After countless conversations, meetings with farmers and producers, and a few passionate debates, we landed on the name BABBO — Tuscan for "dad."
For us, BABBO stands for tradition, authenticity, and the connection we want to build between farmers and people who truly want to know where their food comes from.
Our Dream
We believe in a more transparent food system — one built on sustainable farming, pure flavors, and the natural nutrients that food used to have, before industrial processes took over.
An informed consumer makes better choices. Better choices build a better system.
It really is that simple.
We’re still small, but our ambitions are big. And wherever this journey takes us, we’ll stay true to our core values:
-
100% organic products
-
Flavorful and nutrient-rich food
-
Full transparency, from farm to table
