Building a Better Food System
BABBO is about breaking away from the dominance of nutritionally deficient cash crops in favour of a more biodiverse and climate-resilient agricultural system. This isn’t just better for the planet- it’s driven by consumer demand for better quality food rather than monoculture and profit.
By sourcing and highlighting more nutrient-rich ingredients like ancient grains, we can build a more sustainable system where both consumers and farmers benefit. We get to eat great food, farmers can make a good living, and the cycle of nature is respected.
There’s nothing more valuable than a healthy ecosystem. Good quality becomes more affordable, the foods we love will continue to thrive, and as market demand leans into more nutrient-rich foods, farmers are incentivized to farm more sustainably and plant more biodiverse crops.
Over time, we aim to expand our network of organic farmers—giving them the recognition they deserve while building trust-based relationships with an international customer base. We have seen firsthand the tremendous potential in Italy to revive traditional, healthier ingredient varieties—provided that consumer demand reaches the farmers, as there is plenty of organic land available for growing the finest produce. Unfortunately, the dominant food industry often forces farmers to produce lower-quality crops or leaves vast stretches of organic land unused because the right demand doesn’t reach them. Therefore, we are committed to being a positive force for change in an industry that’s long overdue for a shake-up.
The BABBO Community
We all know there’s a lot of greenwashing going on these days, most of which sadly isn’t verifiable or even truthful. We’ve also seen firsthand the beautiful side of agriculture—the side where people work incredibly hard to nurture their land. They focus on quality organic Ingredients that are free from additives, don’t resort to using pesticides, and they work in harmony with nature rather than against it.
Supporting farmers by committing to fair prices helps them adopt more efficient practices. When you choose BABBO, you’re ensuring that they get the recognition and compensation they deserve. As our community grows, we motivate and inspire other farmers, producers, and consumers to see that doing better is not only possible but beneficial for the land and our health. So when we grow, they will grow. Creating the mutual benefit effect for both consumer and farmer.
